What is AUFA?
AUFA is the trade union which represents full and part time faculty, librarians, archivists, instructors, lecteurs/lectrics, and PAD lecturers at Acadia University. Our First Collective Agreement was signed in 1979, giving faculty a say over our working conditions, including grievance procedures, and the right to bargain for wages and benefits. Currently our terms of employment are governed by the Thirteenth Collective Agreement, which is in force from 10 July 2010 to 30 June 2014.
What does AUFA do for members?
One of the stipulations of the 13th CA is that every new faculty member is entitled to receive a hard copy of the contract from the Administration. For your convenience, it can be found under the "Agreements" section of this webpage. On this website you will also find information about the Association, the Executive, committees, etc.
AUFA is one of the most democratic and forward-looking academic associations in Canada. We hold monthly general meetings at which all members participate in decision making. AUFA is committed to transparency and inclusiveness, and we have negotiated provisions that will ensure employment and pay equity. Nevertheless, problems do arise from time to time, and the Executive and Association Grievance Committee work hard to advocate on behalf of members.
How can I become a member?
All faculty belong to the bargaining unit and automatically pay dues, but to become a member of the Association with voting rights, you have to sign up. You can find a copy of the sign-up sheet by going to the "Forms" section of this webpage.
How can I find out more?
